Broken Promise

It wasn’t supposed to be like this. He was going to keep her safe – keep them safe from her. Now they’re just shredded flesh, fluttering ribbons of torn fabric -Jill’s uniform, Amanda’s summer dress - pale knobs of bone in half-chewed gristle.

She can hear flies buzzing.

She longs for cage bars holding her in, for the sight of his face, smiling, saying good morning, does she want breakfast. She longs, too, for his cool, knowing touch on her body. But most of all, she longs to do to him what she’s done to them - payback for promises broken.
